The 29-year-old Vick, once the NFL's highest-paid player, has been out of action since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons star was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting ring, and served 18 of a 23-month sentence in federal prison. Philadelphia was barely mentioned when the so-called experts spoke of possible destinations for Vick, making his signing a big surprise in NFL circles. At first it was thought that he would go some place he could immediately contribute (like, say, San Francisco), but in recent weeks the speculation focused on teams with established quarterbacks and a strong front office.
