South Africa bowled out New Zealand for 214 runs in 47.5 overs in their Group B match of the ICC Champions Trophy at the SuperSport Park here on Thursday.
Wayne Parnel was the best bowler with his five for 57 while Dale Steyn and Roelof van der Merwe picked up two wickets each. Ross Taylor was the top scorer with 72 while Brendon McCullum made 44.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith won the toss and put New Zealand in to bat in their must-win encounter.
Shane Bond accounts for the second South African wicket in Jacques Kallis after they lost skipper Graeme Smith early.
Daryl Tuffey lured Graeme Smith into chipping one to mid-on, where Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori was all alert to take an easy catch.
Speedster Shane Bond claimed the second one. Brendon McCullum collected well behind the stumps to make Jacques Kallis head home.
Star opener Herschelle Gibbs remained out of the scheme with his injury, and there were no changes to the Proteas side.
New Zealand, on the other hand, were without Jacob Oram and Ian Butler.
The Kiwis have won three out of the last five ODIs against South Africa. In the only Champions Trophy contest between the two, New Zealand came out on top.
