In reply to Mumbai Indians 165, Chennai Super Kings managed 146 at the loss of seven wickets. Lasith Malinga finished with three wickets while Jayasuriya picked two. Dwayne Bravo and Harbhajan Singh took one apiece.
Malinga struck in the first over to dismiss Chennai opener Parthiv Patel (0) in their first IPL 2 tie. Parthiv edged a slinging delivery from the flamboyant Lankan bowler and Sachin Tendulkar took a magnificent catch in the second slip.
